In My Kitchen is a wonderful monthly series hosted by Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial.  Head over to her blog for a full list of the participants, and find out what’s happening in kitchens across the globe.

I’ve been very busy in the garden this month, so the kitchen has been a bit quieter.  In my kitchen this month…

I’ve been roasting chickpeas with Mr Minecraft.  He’s not a fan of pulses generally, but loves roasted chickpeas and broad beans, and loves the ones we make as I amp up the spices!…

Roasted chickpeas

I have some beautiful fresh turmeric that was sent to me by my lovely mother from her garden.  I’ll freeze some for later, and will also use fresh in a few curries and also with cauliflower – cauliflower and turmeric is such a great combination…

Fresh turmeric

I’ve used some of the beautiful pink and white new season ginger to make crystallised ginger – some coated in sugar and dried out, and some kept in the syrup.  I had a dreadful cold when I was making this so the extra ginger syrup also made a fantastic drink for my sore throat…

Crystallised ginger

I always love chestnut season, and bought a big bag of these beauties from Sunny Creek Organics in Victoria…

Organic chestnuts

Using Celia’s technique I was able to peel them whole for the first time, and now have a little stash of (mostly) whole peeled chestnuts in the freezer!…

Peeled chestnuts

I was lucky enough to be invited (thanks again Liz!) to a Canberra food bloggers dinner (my first) and had a truly wonderful meal at Pialligo Estate Farmhouse Restaurant.  We also took home a basket of wonderful goodies, including my favourite bacon and smoked salt.  I’ll tell you more about some of these products in future recipes…

Pialligo Estate basket

I had the wonderful bacon from my basket this morning, courtesy of a lovely breakfast for Mothers’ Day cooked by Mr GP and young Mr Minecraft.  Mr M cooked the crepes completely by himself, including making the batter!  I really love seeing how the children are already developing as cooks… 🙂

Looking at this month’s activity I can feel Winter around the corner now, and next month it’ll be official!
