In My Kitchen is a wonderful monthly series hosted by Celia from Fig Jam and Lime Cordial.  Head over to her blog for a full list of the participants, and find out what’s happening in kitchens across the globe.

In my kitchen this month are…

Lots of fabulous local(ish) ingredients to use in Christmas baking, December is when it all really starts…

…half a kilo of pistachio kernels from Go Just Nuts near the Murray River, to make beautiful pistachio and almond biscuits,

…a kilo of organic Australian sultanas from the Sultana Girl, also by the Murray,

…a kilo of cultured unsalted butter from Myrtleford Butter Factory, that I’m hoping will make truly fabulous shortbread,

…three kilos of organic pecans from Bellbowra Organics on the Mid-North Coast to go in my dark fruit cake – the kids get the job of shelling them!

…two kilos of raisins and one of currants from Murray View Organics (I forgot to take a pic of the currants), I’ve already used some of these and the sultanas for my first  fruit cake,

dried raisins

…a kilo each of dried apricots and pears from Trevallie Orchard in the Barossa Valley, I’ll use the apricots for sticky apricot and pecan squares,

Some beautifully packaged pulses and grains from the Grampians…

…Mt Byron black lentils, Spanish brown lentils, and chickpeas from PBSeeds, and

…biodynamic French lentils, pearled spelt and pearled barley from Burrum Biodynamics.

The best corn tortillas I’ve had, made to order by La Tortilleria in Melbourne.  I’m not sure how they compare to ones made in Mexico, but these certainly seem properly corn tasting, and very tender – overall very moreish!  They freeze well too.  Their own tortilla chips are also great.  We’ve used the tortillas for quesadillas and beautiful fish tacos.

goat’s milk soap

And finally, it’s not technically in my kitchen, but I’ve also just bought some beautiful goat’s milk soap from Brae Fire farm.  From the top – chai, pink clay and lavender scented, and a little freebie with ground walnuts at the bottom.
